Healthmonix’s EACCR designated as a 2025 Qualified Clinical Data Registry by CMS

Written by Lauren Patrick | January 27, 2025

Malvern, Pa. —Healthmonix is proud to announce that the Emergency and Acute Care Clinical Registry (EACCR) has been approved as a Qualified Clinical Data Registry (QCDR) by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for the 2025 reporting year. This is the fifth straight year Healthmonix has earned this designation for EACCR, which empowers clinicians to seamlessly meet Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) requirements while leveraging innovative tools to drive improvements in patient care and streamline regulatory compliance.

As a CMS-approved QCDR, the EACCR provides healthcare organizations with a robust platform for reporting all standard MIPS measures as well as 30 Healthmonix-supported custom QCDR quality measures to support clinicians in the acute care setting. These measures, designed by healthcare professionals, align with Healthmonix’s mission to improve healthcare outcomes by equipping providers with actionable data insights.

Advancing care with custom measures

For 2025, Healthmonix developed and secured CMS approval for a suite of 30 custom QCDR measures addressing critical areas of emergency and acute care delivery and patient outcomes. These measures aim to tackle challenges such as care coordination, opioid management, and patient management and outcomes. In alignment with the CMS 2025 MIPS Value Pathways (MVPs), the EACCR supports clinicians in reporting both Traditional MIPS and MVP measures, offering flexibility and innovative solutions for healthcare organizations of all sizes.

“Our work at Healthmonix is centered on enabling healthcare providers to focus on delivering exceptional patient care while simplifying the complexities of regulatory reporting,” said Lauren Patrick, President of Healthmonix. “The EACCR not only reduces the administrative burden but also drives real improvements in care delivery by integrating meaningful, data-driven insights directly into practice workflows.”

Newly introduced measures in the 2025 EACCR

The 2025 edition of the EACCR introduces a set of refined and innovative measures that address both clinical excellence and patient safety, including:

  • ABC Portion of ABCDEF ICU Liberation Bundle (EACCR3): Aimed at improving ICU care, this measure evaluates the inclusion of pain management, sedation control, and spontaneous awakening trials in ICU patients with respiratory failure, supporting a more holistic approach to critical care.
  • DEF Portion of ABCDEF ICU Liberation Bundle (EACCR2): Building on the ABCDEF bundle, this measure ensures ICU patients receive comprehensive delirium management, early mobility, and family engagement, essential elements of recovery and patient empowerment in critical care.
  • Early Tracheostomy Goals of Care Discussion (EACCR1): This quality measure encourages early discussions regarding tracheostomy for patients requiring prolonged mechanical ventilation, helping to align care goals and improve long-term outcomes.
  • Point-of-Care Ultrasound for Evaluation and Management of Shock (HCPR31):
This measure tracks the percentage of patients aged 18 years and older diagnosed with shock who received point-of-care ultrasound, promoting rapid diagnostic capabilities in emergency care settings.
  • Avoidance of Advanced Imaging for Pediatric Patients with Unprovoked, Generalized Seizure (ECPR60): Aimed at reducing unnecessary radiation exposure, this measure monitors the percentage of pediatric seizure patients who don’t undergo head CT or MRI scans when no new head injury is suspected.
  • Limiting Use of Desflurane-Based Inhalation Anesthesia (PQRANES4): This measure assesses the extent of desflurane use during general anesthesia, promoting the use of more sustainable anesthetic agents in clinical practices.
  • Reporting of Incidental Carotid Artery Calcification on CT Scans (PQRANES3): This measure tracks the percentage of non-arterial CT scans of the neck that document incidental carotid artery calcification, encouraging thorough and complete reporting.
  • Timely and Effective Management of Pediatric Asthma Exacerbations in the Emergency Department (THEPQR6): Focused on pediatric patients experiencing asthma exacerbations, this measure evaluates the timely administration of both Short-Acting Beta Agonists (SABAs) and corticosteroids to ensure effective symptom management.
  • Avoidance of Head CT Scans in Recurrent Seizure Episodes Without New Head Injury (THEPQR5): This measure minimizes unnecessary head CT scans for patients with a known history of seizures, reducing radiation exposure and healthcare costs while maintaining patient safety.
  • Optimization of Short-Term Dual Antiplatelet Therapy for High-Risk Cerebrovascular Events (THEPQR7): This measure promotes the use of evidence-based protocols for the administration of short-term dual antiplatelet therapy following high-risk cerebrovascular events, aiming to prevent recurrent strokes.
  • Avoidance of DVT Ultrasound for Patients Diagnosed with Cellulitis (HCPR29): This measure ensures that patients diagnosed with cellulitis don’t receive unnecessary DVT ultrasounds, streamlining diagnostic practices and reducing unnecessary procedures.
  • Avoidance of Sliding-Scale Insulin Monotherapy for Admitted Diabetic Patients (HCPR30): This measure encourages the use of basal insulin therapy over sliding-scale insulin for diabetic patients admitted to the hospital, promoting better glucose control and reducing complications.

MIPS Cost Analytics: Maximizing value-based care opportunities

One key benefit of the EACCR for users is the integration of MIPS Cost Analytics, which is essential to the Cost category of MIPS — comprising 30% of the total MIPS score. The Cost category measures resource use, and for EACCR users such as emergency medicine doctors and hospitalists, several cost measures are directly applicable. By leveraging the MIPS Cost Analytics program, providers can identify opportunities to improve efficiency and optimize care while reducing unnecessary costs, ensuring that they perform well in this critical category and enhance their overall MIPS score.

Comprehensive tools for success

Beyond measures, Healthmonix continues to advance its technology offerings with integrated dashboards and real-time analytics. The platform facilitates tracking, benchmarking, and optimizing performance across all reported measures, ensuring organizations achieve compliance and maximize incentives under CMS programs. In addition, the new Emergency Medicine cost measure can be analyzed to pinpoint opportunities to improve the Cost score in MIPS.
